Etli Lahana – Cabbage with meat

Ingredients

  • 1 small cabbage (chopped)
  • 1/4 cup red wine
  • 1/2 lb. stew lean meat
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 medium onion (chopped)
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 big carrot chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Salt, and pepper
  • 5 mushrooms chopped
  • 1 can 14 1/2 oz. stewed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon hot red pepper paste

Directions

Cut the meat pieces against the grain into thin slices. Sauté chopped onions, carrots, and mushrooms with meat. Add wine, red pepper paste, salt pepper, water and boil until meat is tender about 45 minutes on medium heat. Add chopped cabbage and sugar. Cover and cook until cabbage is soft about 20 minutes. Serve with fresh baked bread and red wine.
