Hamsi Bugulama (Steamed Anchovies)

Ingredients

  • 1 kg fresh anchovies, gutted and boned
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 anaheim peppers sliced diagonally
  • grated peel of 1 lemon
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 onions minced
  • 2 medium tomatoes peeled and diced
  • ½ sprig parsley chopped
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • a pinch of black pepper

Directions

1. Fan out along the bottom of a large skillet.

* 1 kg fresh anchovies, gutted and boned
* 2 tbsp butter

2. Mix together and add to the skillet over the fish.

* grated peel of 1 lemon
* 2 onions minced
* 2 medium tomatoes peeled and diced
* ½ sprig parsley chopped
* ¼ tsp salt
* a pinch of black pepper
* 1 bay leaf
* 2 anaheim peppers sliced diagonally

3. Gently pour over and cover. Cook over low heat for 15 minutes.

* ½ cup water
